where nothing is real, and nothing else is sacred.

She smiles like a Rove.

I’ve liked this photo for a long time. It actually hails back to 2005, when Harriet Miers was nominated for the U.S. Supreme Court for no apparent reason. As a photographer, I personally like to limit the use of “zany angles” when photographing people, but I’ve always thought the way Brendan Smialowski captured the way Miers definitively leans to the right was wonderfully apropos. In fact, I’ve come to believe that photos of Miers (and several others) should always be captured like this.

  1. Wasn’t it Hitchcock who used some weird angle shots in his movies? If Harriet Meirs were a Hitchcock movie, what would she be? The Birds? She has a certain beaky look in this picture…

  2. I loves me some Rocky the Racoon.

PS – I’ve been trying for a couple of days to use this pix, but I just cannot do much with it. Bravo!

  3. I want to see the look on her face when she’s held in contempt. Said it before, but on the good side at least she may get some good make-up tips in prison.
